The Y is pumped to reopen doors at Lakeside Leisure Centre on Wednesday, July 1 creating opportunities for youth and communities to connect and stay active.
Following the ACT Government’s announcement to ease COVID-19 restrictions the centre will open for group fitness and gym floor access next week with important new changes in place to help members and staff stay safe while keeping fit. The pools currently remain closed due to ongoing maintenance.
“We are opening with the support of the ACT Government in what are still uncertain times and want to reassure our patrons that these facilities will be following all Territory and Federal health advice with extensive social distancing and hygiene measures in place,” said Y NSW Area Manager Mathew Pole.
“Canberra Olympic Pool, Lakeside and Gungahlin are all places for everyone to enjoy and stay fit but more than that, they are important hubs for community connection.
“We are very proud of our staff for their commitment to keeping these great community assets maintained throughout closure, which has allowed us to open as soon as possible for the community after such challenging times.”
The Y has its COVID Safety Plan in place and has installed a range of COVID Safe updates for the safety of our members and staff, including sneeze screens, social distancing floor markings, more hand sanitiser stations, increased cleaning and hygiene signage. All staff are receiving additional COVID Safe training and access to the centre will be limited.
On Friday 19 June the ACT Government announced a further easing of restrictions, in line with Step 2.2 of Canberra’s Recovery Plan, allowing a maximum of 100 people per indoor or outdoor space or one person per 4 square metres, whichever is lesser, and no more than four swimmers per lane.
The Y will closely monitor maximum capacities at all centres, and online bookings must be made for all group fitness classes, which can be done here.
At this stage, the Y is unable to offer Learn to Swim and the Kiosk remains closed.
For Fitness and Family Direct Debit Memberships only, billing will recommence on Friday 17th July 2020. If you are not quite ready to return to the centre and wish to extend your membership suspension, please contact the centre no later than 5pm Friday, July 10.
